Programs for Parents
For many, the news that their child is deaf or hard of hearing comes as a complete shock. Parents and families must comprehend the diagnosis, all while millions of questions go through their mind. What happens next, who do I call, how will this affect my child’s future, how will this affect my family. This is a normal reaction to the unknown. Studies have shown that parents of a child with hearing loss can be most effective when they have a clear understanding of their child’s disability, the challenges faced, and the resources that are available to them. Parents are given access to the information they need to be effective partners with professionals in the treatment of their child.
Parent groups
Whether you are a parent of a newly diagnosed child or have years of experience navigating your hearing journey, it is important to have the support of other parents. CHI is organizing a Parents Connect Program in the tri-state area to facilitate unbiased sharing, information gathering, socializing, and more importantly –emotional support. If you would like to join our Parent Group please send a request to our Parent Facebook Page. We also encourage parents who have begun their own local groups to contact us so that we can get the word out to new parents that these gatherings are happening in a town near them. If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact our office at 212-257-6138.
