Overview
Day 1 will focus on A VT Strategies, Assessments, and reading comprehension, language development and theory of mind as it relates to children with hearing loss. Day 2 will include presentation on Quality of life for children with Cis or HAs, Minimum Speech Test Battery, Speech Discrimination as well as the medical management of SSD and clinical practices and outcomes for children with unilateral hearing loss.
Learning Outcomes:
Participants will be able to:
- After the session, participants will be able to distinguish patterns of active ingredients that may lead to successful bilingual and/or multi-lingual learning.
- List activities for promoting auditory comprehension .
- Describe three strategies to use when counseling parents and family members of children with hearing loss.
- Understand the role of etiologic testing, particularly with respect to CMV, in the diagnostic management of SSD.
- Describe auditory and communication outcomes in children with unilateral hearing loss.
- Describe differences in speech discrimination abilities between infants with and without hearing losJ.
- State the variables that could impact benefit for bimodal and bilateral CI recipients.
- Outline two clinical guidelines for clinicians and parents that support a healthy trajectory of conversational competence in children who are D/HH.
- Describe the Pediatric Minimum Speech Test Battery, from parent report to sentence perception in noise, and the rationale to transition to the next assessment or listen in a condition within the protocol.
- Describe patterns of peer victimization (bullying) in adolescents with cochlear implants.
