Mary Baumont, MA
Coordinator of the Itinerant Program at the Summit Speech School
Mary Baumont has deep and varied experience in the field of deaf education. She received a Master’s degree inDeaf Education from New York University and holds certifications in Special Education and Elementary Education. Mary has over twenty five years of experience teaching students with hearing loss in a variety of settings. She started her career in a traditional school for the deaf and later worked in an auditory oral preschool. She has been a group leader for infant/toddler programs and worked with older students in mainstream settings. Mary was part of the New York Eye and Ear Cochlear Implant team for seven years where she was a presenter at conferences, advised families and collaborated with schools to ensure children received appropriate educational services. She later worked as an Education Specialist at Columbia University Medical Center and was part oftheir cochlear implant team.
Mary is currently the Coordinator of the Itinerant Program at the Summit Speech School. This program provides a range of services tailored to a particular child’s and school’s needs so that children with hearing loss can maximize the benefit they gain from being in a mainstream school. The Summit Speech School currently provides services to children with hearing loss in over 65 school districts.
